Compressing your files

Modified on Fri, 9 Oct at 2:41 PM

When uploading attachments to Ecordia, the maximum size per attachment is limited, but the number of attachments is unlimited:

Until the end of December 2026: 250 MB

From 1st January 2027: 125 MB

From 1st April 2027: 75 MB

Here’s some simple advice you can pass on to users who upload large files, which are usually videos.

Many users record video on their phones in HD or 4K. This often isn’t needed. Setting the phone to record in SD (standard definition) instead makes the files much smaller.

Users can also compress files before uploading them. We haven’t tested any compression software, so we can’t recommend a particular product, but we’ve had good feedback about these:

  • www.handbrake.fr: good for compressing and converting video files.
  • www.zamzar.com: good for compressing and converting most file types, especially audio.

Please make sure your PC or laptop has up-to-date virus protection before you download anything.
