Second-Line Assessment (SLA) of Evidence

These instructions detail the steps to follow when conducting Second-Line Assessment (“SLA”) on assessed evidence.

Once a Primary Assessor, who is not yet qualified, has completed an assessment, it must be checked by a qualified Assessor before the assessment feedback can go to the Candidate. This process is known as ‘Second-Line Assessment’ (SLA).

1. Sending Evidence for SLA:

1.1  When an Unqualified Assessor
clicks 'Finish Assessment'
1.2 a control will appear at the bottom of the screen to send evidence to second-line assessor. The control will default to the assigned SLA on the unqualified assessors' account.
1.3 Click 'Send' to send to the selected qualified assessor for SLAbut if the user clicks on the control they should be able to select an alternative SLA.

2. Conducting Second-line Assessment:

The Primary Assessor will be prompted to send the evidence and feedback for SLA to a qualified Assessor once they have clicked the ‘Finish Assessment’ button. Until this point the evidence will remain with the Primary Assessor. Once sent for SLA, the qualified Assessor will receive a ‘task’ item on their start page titled ‘Second-Line Assessment’. This will provide the qualified Assessor with a link to the evidence awaiting SLA.

2.1 Click on the task item. You will now be viewing the evidence and on this page you can also read the Primary Assessor's feedback.
The plan can be viewed by clicking the ‘Show Plan’ button at the bottom of the page.

2.2 Once you are satisfied that you have conducted SLA and are ready to provide feedback, click the ‘Prepare feedback’ button.  You will to select one of the following decisions, and write your feedback/guidance:

Assessor to revise assessment feedback - will return the evidence to the Assessing mode, you will also be able to set a target date for the assessor to complete the actions by.

Agreewill move the evidence forward to the Feedback Given mode and the Candidate will be able to read and accept the Primary Assessor’s feedback.

2.3. Click the ‘Save Feedback & Close’ button to save your feedback ‐ you can now add file attachments to your feedback if required.

2.4. Once you are ready to provide the Primary Assessor with your feedback, click the ‘Finish Feedback’ button.

You can use the ‘Redo Second-Line’ to return to step 2.2 if your decision is negative.  If your decision is positive, and you need to change it to negative contact a Quality Assurance Coordinator at your centre who can click the 'Redo Second-line' button and can then use QA/Workflow to change the holder.

If the Assessor fails to address the feedback before the target date you will receive a task item titled ‘Overdue second line assessment or IQA action’ ‐ this will provide you with a convenient link to the relevant evidence for you to monitor.

NOTE: Once you have provided SLA feedback and this has been accepted by the unqualified Primary Assessor you will not be able to make changes to your feedback.  If you need to revise your feedback the Primary Assessor will need to assess the Evidence again, and when you receive it for SLA you can then revise your feedback by creating a new entry and making reference to your existing entry.

These are the steps to take if you require the assessor to edit the latest version of the evidence data:

Step 1:
1.1 The SLA will need to select the 'Assessor to revise assessment feedback' decision, and click 'Finish Feedback'
1.2 Assessor will then need to 'Modify Assessment Feedback' and select 'Action Required' as the assessment decision, and submit to SLA.

Step 2:
2.1 The SLA will need to select the 'Agree' decision, and click 'Finish Feedback'
2.2 Feedback will go to candidate, who will be able to 'Accept', and then the assessor will become the holder to edit the evidence.

Cancelling a second line assessment tasks

This will delete the assessment feedback and return the evidence to presented:

If the evidence does not have any IQA feedback, a user with the Quality Assurance Coordinator role (and linked to the course) can to go to the evidence and click 'Cancel Assessment' to which will delete the assessor feedback and return the evidence to the presented step.

If the evidence has IQA feedback, then the usual SLA workflow will need to be followed.
